Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set for a two-day visit to Tamil Nadu, Lakshadweep, and Kerala starting January 2, 2024. The visit is marked by a commitment to inaugurate and initiate various developmental projects aimed at fostering growth and progress in these regions. In a tweet, the Prime Minister outlined his agenda, highlighting a slew of initiatives that encompass diverse sectors such as internet connectivity, clean drinking water supply, solar energy, healthcare, and more.

Prime Minister’s Schedule in Tamil Nadu:

On the first day of his tour, Prime Minister Modi will commence his journey in Tamil Nadu. The schedule includes attending the 38th convocation ceremony of Bharathidasan University in Tiruchirappalli. During the event, the Prime Minister will confer awards to students and deliver an address. Following this, he will inaugurate the new terminal building at the Tiruchirappalli International Airport, a project valued at over Rs. 11,00 crore. This state-of-the-art facility is designed to cater to more than 44 lakh passengers annually.

The Prime Minister is also slated to dedicate numerous railway projects to the nation, including the doubling of rail line sections, electrification projects, and the inauguration of road sector projects. These initiatives are poised to enhance connectivity and infrastructure in the region significantly.

Projects in Tamil Nadu:

Among the key projects in Tamil Nadu are the doubling of rail line sections, road sector projects, and the inauguration of a new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport. The railway projects involve doubling sections of key routes, electrification endeavours, and the inauguration of road development projects. Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for various projects, including the General Cargo Berth-II and essential Petroleum and Natural Gas ventures.

Prime Minister Modi in Lakshadweep:

Continuing his journey, Prime Minister Modi will visit Lakshadweep, where he is set to lay the foundation stone for projects worth over Rs. 1,150 crore. Noteworthy among these is the Kochi-Lakshadweep Islands Submarine Optical Fiber Connection (KLI-SOFC) project, aimed at addressing the internet speed challenges in the union territory. The inauguration of the Low-Temperature Thermal Desalination (LTTD) plant in Kadmat, producing 1.5 lakh litres of clean drinking water daily, and the Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC) in Agatti and Minicoy islands are also on the agenda.

The Prime Minister’s Lakshadweep visit underscores a commitment to sustainable development, with the inauguration of the first-ever battery-backed solar power project, a healthcare facility renovation, and the construction of model Anganwadi Centers in various islands.
