In a bid to tackle the ever-looming water crisis, Uravu Labs, a Bengaluru-based startup, has unveiled a groundbreaking solution – extracting drinking water from air. Swapnil Srivastav, the CEO and Co-founder, shared exclusive insights into their revolutionary technology in an interview with News18.
‘Uravu core technology extracts water from air using a unique process inspired by desiccant materials,’ Srivastav explained. He emphasised the importance of addressing the global water crisis, exacerbated by factors like population growth and climate change, and highlighted the significance of their technology in providing a sustainable solution.
With a commitment to sustainability, Uravu Labs utilises glass packaging and employs a reverse logistics model for bottle reuse. Srivastav emphasised their focus on affordability, superior taste, and eco-friendliness to win over consumers, citing the success of their sales in Bangalore.
Despite competition from major corporations, Srivastav is confident in Uravu’s ability to establish itself as a sustainable alternative. The company follows a unique business model, handling backend operations while partnering with distribution networks.
Looking ahead, Uravu Labs plans for expansion and innovation, with projects ranging from hydroponics to data centers. Srivastav envisions making air-to-water technology affordable for household and rural applications, aiming to reduce costs to 50 paise per litre by 2030. In the face of rising water scarcity, Uravu Labs’ innovative approach offers a ray of hope, heralding a new era in the drinking water industry.
