The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the US Department of Justice joined forces for a workshop on Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) and Extradition Matters. Held at CBI Headquarters in New Delhi, the workshop saw participation from officers across all States/UTs and Central law enforcement organisations.

The workshop shed light on the MHA online portal, which has streamlined the process of handling International Letters of Request (ILORs), reducing processing times significantly.

Indian and U.S. practitioners exchanged insights on expediting assistance and understanding legal frameworks. Discussions focused on combating international crimes and expediting international cooperation.

Leading the U.S. delegation was Mr. Jeffrey M Olson, Associate Director, Office of International Affairs, U.S. Department of Justice, accompanied by Special Agents and attorneys from the FBI.

The workshop aims to bolster international cooperation in combating transnational crimes and optimising legal frameworks for mutual assistance and extradition, especially in the digital age where reliance on foreign evidence is increasingly crucial in crime prevention and prosecution.
