In a stern move, unregistered shelters for children up to 18, including orphans and disabled, will be deemed illegal. District Child Protection Officer Yogesh Kumari emphasised, ‘As per the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, any such home must be registered, failing which, operators may face a year’s imprisonment or a Rs 1 lakh fine, or both.’
Highlighting the registration process, Yogesh explained, ‘A formal request must be sent to the Deputy Commissioner, followed by a state-led inspection. Provisional registration lasts six months, leading to permanent registration after thorough document verification, valid for five years.’
