The Enforcement Directorate (ED) justified Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest to the Supreme Court, citing his ‘blatant disregard for law’. Kejriwal’s petition challenging the arrest was deemed ‘devoid of merit’ by the central agency. Accusing him of evading interrogation despite nine summonses, the ED deemed his arrest necessary. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party labelled the ED a ‘machine for telling lies’ in response. The ED highlighted Kejriwal’s conduct as contributing to the need for his arrest, backed by judicially reviewed evidence. Emphasising the arrest as part of the investigation, the ED refuted any claims of malintent.

They argued against Kejriwal’s plea, stating it wasn’t seeking bail but challenging the arrest during the investigation. The agency maintained the arrest’s legitimacy, citing Kejriwal’s evasive behaviour during interrogation. They claimed possession of sufficient evidence implicating Kejriwal in money laundering.

Kejriwal’s non-cooperation was cited as the reason for his arrest by the ED. AAP criticised the ED, accusing them of fabricating lies for political gain. Kejriwal was arrested on 21 March after the Delhi High Court’s refusal to protect him. On 9 April , the court upheld the arrest, stating it was legally sound, leaving the agency with few options.
