The report highlights the dominance of Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar, which together account for approximately 70 million subscribers. These platforms are shaping India’s OTT ecosystem with investments in regional content and franchise-based formats.

Top Hindi Originals in 2024

Prime Video’s Mirzapur S3 emerged as the most-watched Hindi web series in 2024, with 30.8 million viewers. Other notable entries included Panchayat S3, attracting 28.2 million viewers. Netflix and Prime Video collectively secured 10 entries in the Top Hindi web series rankings for 2024, solidifying their positions in the market.

In Hindi cinema, Netflix dominated, claiming 11 of the top 15 spots. Films like Do Patti (15.1 million viewers), Sector 36, and Maharaj showcased its stronghold on the segment.

Regional Content Trends

Telugu and Tamil content gained momentum in 2024. Disney+ Hotstar’s Save The Tigers S2 led Telugu originals with five million viewers, while Inspector Rishi on Prime Video topped Tamil streaming charts with 4.9 million viewers. Disney+ Hotstar dominated Tamil content rankings, securing seven out of the Top 10 spots.

Global Franchises in India

Squid Game S2 by Netflix shattered records in India as the most-watched international show, with 19.6 million viewers. Other global hits included The Boys S4 and House of the Dragon S2, demonstrating the sustained popularity of international franchise oppertunties.

Marketing and Audience Engagement

Among Hindi shows, Mirzapur S3 generated the most buzz, achieving a 63% peak buzz rating on Ormax Stream Track. Hindi films lagged behind, with Do Patti achieving a 17% peak buzz. Internationally, Squid Game S2 ranked as the second-most-buzzing show in India after Money Heist S5.

Content Strength and Viewer Preferences

Prime Video’s Panchayat S3 scored the highest in viewer satisfaction, achieving an Ormax Power Rating (OPR) of 77. Regional favorites included 90’s – A Middle Class Biopic (Telugu, 83 OPR) and Chutney Sambar (Tamil, 68 OPR). In the international segment, Squid Game S2 continued to impress with a 73 OPR.

India’s streaming trends in 2024 highlight the growing importance of regional content and global franchises. As platforms like Netflix, Prime Video, and Disney+ Hotstar invest in localized and original content, India’s OTT landscape continues to evolve.
