PCMC Ignites Action: 43K Businesses on Notice for Fire Safety Flaws

Date:

In a bold move, the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is tightening the screws on fire safety, urging a whopping 43,925 commercial establishments to swiftly re-submit details of their fire safety measures. The urgency stems from a meticulous fire prevention survey conducted by empowered women from authorised self-help groups, acting on behalf of the Mahila Arthik Vikas Mahamandal, Pune.

Unveiling glaring inadequacies in the fire safety information provided by these establishments, the civic body is leaving no room for compromise when it comes to public safety. Owners and occupants have been sent stern warnings  by the PCMC fire safety department, emphasising the need for immediate action to rectify identified deficiencies.

‘Ensuring the safety of both property and occupants is paramount’ stated an official statement released on Monday. The SMS alerts highlight the need for full cooperation in re-filing essential fire safety information, addressing concerns such as missing licenses and incomplete documentation.

This proactive stance comes as a response to the survey’s findings, which revealed a worrying lack of adherence to fire safety norms. The establishments, having been notified of the deficiencies, are now under a strict deadline to comply. The PCMC warns of impending regulatory action should these businesses fail to meet the prescribed fire safety standards.

As we bid farewell to the past year, the PCMC’s unwavering commitment to enhancing public safety sets a tone of responsibility and urgency for a secure 2024. Business owners are now under the spotlight, with the onus on them to ensure their establishments meet the stringent fire safety requirements set by the civic body.
