On the Occasion of Women’s day , to ease the financial burden on households, particularly women, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reduced LPG cylinder prices by ₹100. The decision was made shortly after the government announced that the Ujjwala Yojana would continue to provide women with a ₹300 per LPG cylinder subsidy for the fiscal year from April 1.
‘This will significantly alleviate the financial strain on millions of households nationwide, particularly benefiting ‘Nari Shakti’ (women power),’ PM Modi declared during the announcement, emphasising the government’s commitment to supporting family well-being and environmental health by making cooking gas more affordable.
There have been differing responses to the announcement, though. Supriya Sule, an MP for the NCP (SCP), raised suspicion and blamed the decision’s timing on approaching elections. Juhie Singh, national president of the Samajwadi Party Mahila Sabha, called on PM Modi to address the purported inconsistencies in the Ujjwala Yojana’s execution while accusing the BJP government of dishonesty.
In response, PM Modi, in a separate statement, praised the resilience and achievements of women across various sectors while reaffirming the government’s dedication to empowering them through education, entrepreneurship, and technological initiatives.
The October of last year saw the start implementation of the subsidy rise, which is set to extend until March 31. PM Modi has highlighted these actions as a component of the government’s ten-year achievements.
In keeping with its larger goal of ‘Ease of Living’ for all residents, the government’s decision to lower the price of LPG cylinders on Women’s Day is indicative of its continuous efforts to prioritise women’s empowerment and well-being.
Neha Sharma, an energy analyst, applauded the move, stating, ‘Reduced LPG cylinder prices is a welcoming step towards alleviating financial strain on households, especially women-led ones. It shows the government’s responsiveness to people’s needs.’ For legal assistance on government schemes like Ujjwala Yojana and consumer rights, get on call with our expert team from Vakilsearch.
