The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has launched the RBIDATA, a mobile application designed to provide seamless access to macroeconomic and financial statistics. The app offers over 11,000 different series of economic data related to the Indian economy, making it a valuable resource for researchers, students, and the general public.

Comprehensive Economic Data at Fingertips

RBIDATA presents a wide range of economic indicators in an accessible format. Users can view time-series data through interactive graphs and charts, allowing for easier analysis and interpretation of trends. Each dataset includes essential details such as data source, unit of measurement, frequency, and recent updates. The application aims to simplify the process of accessing financial information while maintaining accuracy and transparency.

User-Friendly Features

The application has been designed to enhance user experience with a visually engaging interface. The ‘Popular Reports’ section highlights frequently accessed reports, providing a quick overview of crucial economic data. Additionally, the app’s search function enables users to find specific datasets directly from the home screen without navigating through multiple sections.

RBIDATA integrates seamlessly with the Database on the Indian Economy (DBIE) portal, which is accessible through the RBI’s website (https://data.rbi.org.in). This integration ensures that users can obtain in-depth economic insights without the need for extensive navigation.

Banking Outlet Locator and SAARC Finance Section

The application includes a ‘Banking Outlet’ section that allows users to locate banking facilities within a 20-kilometre radius of their location. This feature helps individuals find nearby financial services, promoting banking accessibility across the country.

In addition, RBIDATA provides access to economic data from SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries through the ‘SAARC Finance’ section. This feature offers regional economic insights and facilitates cross-border economic research.

Availability and Feedback Mechanism

The RBIDATA app is available for both Android and iOS users with operating systems version 12 and above. The app also includes a feedback feature, allowing users to provide suggestions for improvements. This function ensures that the RBI can refine the app based on user input and maintain an optimal user experience.

Enhancing Public Access to Economic Data

With the launch of RBIDATA, the RBI aims to make economic and financial statistics more accessible to a wider audience. By offering data in an interactive and easily interpretable format, the app simplifies complex financial information and promotes informed decision-making among researchers, students, policymakers, and the public.

RBIDATA marks a significant step in improving digital access to economic data, aligning with the RBI’s objective of fostering financial literacy and economic transparency. The app is expected to be a valuable tool for anyone looking to analyse trends and understand key aspects of the Indian economy.
