Trademark Battle: Delhi High Court Halts ‘AAJ TAK WATCH NEWS’ in Aaj Tak Battle!

The Delhi High Court issued an interim order restraining Gujarat’s ‘AAJ TAK WATCH NEWS’ from utilising the ‘Aaj Tak’ trademark. A suit for trademark infringement was filed by Aaj Tak, prompting Justice Anish Dayal to bar the Gujarat-based platform from using ‘Aaj Tak’ or any deceptively similar mark.

The order extends to domain names, email addresses, and social media handles. The court emphasised the prohibition’s enforcement until the next hearing on May 16.

Justice Anish Dayal clarified that the Gujarat platform is barred from using the plaintiff’s marks in any manner on digital media platforms. Living Media India Limited, owner of Aaj Tak, argued that ‘AAJ TAK WATCH’ infringed upon their trademark. The court found a prima facie case in favor of Aaj Tak, prompting the interim order.

If non-compliance occurs within two weeks, domain registrars will suspend the defendant’s websites, and social media platforms will deactivate infringing accounts. Legal representation includes Rahul Beruar and Jyotsana Sinha for Living Media India Limited and Kunal Rakwar for defendant Jay Jayeshbhai Tank. The case highlights the ongoing battle against trademark infringement and the judiciary’s commitment to protecting intellectual property rights.
