In a devastating turn of events, a series of explosions ripped through a firecracker factory in the heart of Harda district, Madhya Pradesh, leaving a trail of destruction. The calamity, which unfolded on Tuesday, resulted in the loss of at least 11 lives and left over 175 individuals injured, according to reports.
The tragedy unfolded around 11:30 am at a cracker manufacturing unit situated on Magardha Road, merely 2 km from the district headquarters. Among the victims were identified individuals including Bano Bi, Priyanu, Mubin, Anuj, Abid, Usha, and Mukesh. While ten casualties occurred within Harda district, one individual lost their life while being transported to Bhopal for urgent medical attention.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr. Mohan Yadav, personally visited the injured at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS-Bhopal) and confirmed the grim toll. Expressing condolences, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial aid from the PM National Relief Fund, extending support to the families of the deceased and the injured.
As rescue efforts intensified, with over 1000 personnel including NDRF and SDRF teams deployed, the scale of devastation became apparent. The inferno not only flattened the multi-storied factory but also caused significant damage to nearby residences. Shocking visuals depicted scenes of chaos and desperation as residents fled, and the blasts reverberated across the town, reportedly even causing tremors in neighboring districts.
In response to the tragedy, the state government announced a high-level probe, vowing to hold accountable those responsible for the disaster. The opposition Congress party demanded a judicial inquiry, citing past incidents and alleging negligence in the resumption of operations at the factory.
With the community reeling from the aftermath of this catastrophic event, the focus now shifts to providing support to the affected families and ensuring such incidents are prevented in the future.
