Dhanush Wins Copyright Battle Against Nayanthara & Netflix

Dhanush wins a copyright lawsuit against Nayanthara as Madras HC rejects Netflix’s plea to dismiss the case over unauthorized film footage in her documentary.

Dhanush sued Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan & Rowdy Pictures for using a clip from his 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale without consent.

Wunderbar Films, owned by Dhanush, also sought legal action against Netflix India’s content partner, Los Gatos Production Services, for distributing the documentary.

In November, Dhanush warned of legal action if the disputed content wasn’t removed within 24 hours. His lawsuit demanded Rs 10 crore for copyright infringement.

Nayanthara issued an open letter slamming Dhanush for refusing permission & taking legal action despite her request to use footage from their past film together.

The Madras High Court ruled in favor of Dhanush, marking a major win for copyright protection in the Indian film industry and setting a legal precedent.
