Kerala Budget 2025: Court Fee Hike Proposed After 20 Years

Kerala proposes a court fee hike after 20 years to generate ₹150 crore. The revision follows a committee report on inflation and legal infrastructure demands.

The committee consulted advocates, clerks, and stakeholders before finalizing the report. The revised fees impact bail applications, property suits, and arbitration cases.

New court fees: Bail applications before HC ₹500, Sessions Court ₹200, property suits ₹10K+, arbitration cases 1% of the award, election petitions ₹250-₹3K.

Fee hikes also cover cooperative societies, rent control, consumer protection, and local governance cases. Women & transgender persons may get relaxations.

Exemptions apply for Habeas Corpus & PIL cases. Legal Benefit Fund fees revised for arbitration and SARFAESI petitions. The opposition to the changes continues.

The Kerala government plans to amend the Court Fees Act based on recommendations. The impact will be felt across courts, benefiting legal infrastructure.
