Man Wins Case Against PVR for Long Ads Before Movie

A man in Bengaluru sued PVR & INOX for wasting his time with long ads before a movie. The consumer court ruled in his favor.

The court ordered PVR & INOX to mention the actual movie start time on tickets, stopping ads beyond scheduled show times.

The complainant booked a 4:05 PM show but the actual movie started at 4:30 PM due to long commercial ads, disrupting his schedule.

PVR defended the ads, citing mandatory public service announcements (PSAs), but the court found that 95% of ads were commercial.

The court ruled that only 10 minutes of PSAs can be shown before the movie. Long commercial ads beyond schedule were deemed unfair.

PVR & INOX were fined ₹1 lakh for unfair trade practices and ordered to compensate the complainant ₹28,000 for mental agony & costs.
