Microsoft Layoffs: No Severance for Fired Employees

Microsoft has started performance-based layoffs, firing employees immediately without severance pay. Business Insider reports tough new performance standards.

A letter to affected employees stated their performance did not meet company standards. Access to Microsoft accounts, buildings, and systems was revoked immediately.

Employees were reminded of confidentiality agreements and asked to return company assets, including ID cards, corporate cards, and other office equipment.

Microsoft warned that if these employees apply again in the future, their past performance and reason for termination will be considered in hiring decisions.

The layoffs affect employees up to level 80 and span multiple departments, including security, devices, sales, and gaming, per Business Insider sources.

A Microsoft spokesperson stated, "We focus on high-performance talent… When people are not performing, we take the appropriate action."
