Zero Motorcycles, a well-known electric motorcycle manufacturer, recently initiated patent filing for a new clutch. This system is primarily focused to enhance the riding experience and provide a more engaging feel for the riders. Despite its similarity to a conventional clutch, it allows the riders to stimulate dumping the clutch like a gasoline-powered bike. Zeros’ approach focuses on controlling the torque and the generative braking at low speeds.

As per the outline, once you release the clutch lever the motor receives a brief power burst exceeding the throttle demand. This mimics the sensation of dropping the clutch on a regular motorcycle.
Based on the pictures in the patent, it is thought that the Zero SR/F will be the first motorcycle to possibly get this feature. But considering how close the SR/F, SR/S sports tourer, and DSR/X electric adventure tourer are to one another, these models may eventually get the new clutch mechanism as well.
